Join a residency built on purpose, community, and real-world impact.

The family medicine residency program at Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center is proud to participate in the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP) and follows all NRMP policies.

  • Dean's letter (MSPE)
  • USMLE or COMLEX score transcript

To be considered for ranking, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited medical school, recognized by LCME, AOA, or the World Federation for Medical Education
  • Passed USMLE/COMLEX Part 1
  • Completed USMLE/COMLEX Part 2 and submitted your passing score before our rank list deadline
  • If you’ve been out of medical school for more than two years, show us recent experiences that align with our mission and values
  • Eligible for a training license in North Carolina
  • International graduates: valid ECFMG certificate and verified English translations of all documents
  • Eligible to work in the U.S. (U.S. citizens or permanent residents only — we do not sponsor visas.)

Interviews & program signaling

Interviews for 2025-2026 begin in October and end in December:

  • Final ERAS review: October 31
  • Final interview date: December 19
  • Interview once, be considered for both main program and rural track

We welcome you to reach out if you're interested in visiting our program in person. Our residents would be delighted to meet you and give you an introduction to our community and training environment. Your choice to visit will not affect our rank list.

We’re using ERAS signaling this season. Use your signals to tell us you’re genuinely interested —we’ll only use signals for interview invitations, not for ranking decisions.

Our residency is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate with regard to gender, race, age, religion, color, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, age, pregnancy or pregnancy-related condition, veteran status, or any other legally protected status. An applicant with a disability should fulfill the resident job description after provision of reasonable accommodations as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act.
