Author of “Black Man in a White Coat” to speak at Novant Health

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center announced today that in recognition of Diversity Awareness Month, the Novant Health African American business resource group will host an evening with Dr. Damon Tweedy, author of “Black Man in a White Coat” on Tuesday, Oct. 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Forsyth Medical Center.
Dr. Tweedy is a graduate of Duke University School of Medicine and an assistant professor of psychiatry at Duke University Medical Center and staff physician at Durham Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He has published articles about race and medicine in The New York Times, Washington Post, Chicago Tribune and The (Raleigh) News & Observer.
Black Man in a White Coat: A Doctor’s Reflections on Race and Medicine, a 2015 New York Times best-seller and one of Time magazine’s top 10 nonfiction books of 2015, tackles the relevant topic of race in medicine and Tweedy’s experience as a black medical student and physician, in addition to the disproportionate health burdens faced by black patients.
