Matthews, N.C. - June 20, 2016 - Novant Health Cancer Care offers a genetic counseling program that can review a patient’s personal and family history of cancer to evaluate his or her risk to develop cancer.
Novant Health has recently extended its genetic counseling program to Matthews. Ashley Kaminski, certified genetics counselor, is now accepting and seeing patients at Novant Health Cancer Specialists Matthews on Thursday mornings from 9 to 11 a.m. The clinic is located at 1700 Matthews Township Parkway in Matthews.
During the visit, Ashley will review a patient’s personal and family history, discuss risks, benefits and limitations to genetic testing and discuss options for screening and risk reduction based on the family history and/or genetic test results.
Genetic counseling can offer patients peace of mind by providing the information necessary to make informed decisions about their health. It also allows for discussions about appropriate screening based on family history and/or genetic testing, which may help identify cancer early. Individuals who worry about developing cancer due to a family history of the disease may want to consider genetic counseling.
