Doctors Care locations now Novant Health Urgent Care, connecting S.C. patients to advanced care network

After more than 40 years serving South Carolina communities, Doctors Care is officially transitioning to Novant Health Urgent Care this summer, underscoring Novant Health's commitment to giving patients greater access to care throughout the Palmetto State.

The name change follows Novant Health's acquisition of UCI Medical Affiliates Inc. from BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina in November 2024, which included 52 Doctors Care locations and 20 Progressive Physical Therapy clinics. The Progressive Physical Therapy locations will rebrand to Novant Health Physical Therapy.

"While our name changes, our commitment to accessible, quality care remains the same," said Richard Walsh, Novant Health senior vice president and president of urgent care operations and transformation. "This transition strengthens our ability to support patients across the state with their unexpected health needs, while connecting them to Novant Health’s larger network of hospitals and specialists — maintaining the trusted, urgent care South Carolinians have relied on since 1981."

The rebranding rollout began in early June at the Simpsonville location at 35 Ray E. Talley Court. Since then, locations across the Upstate and Midlands regions also rebranded, with the remaining locations scheduled to transition throughout the summer. The Beaufort and Hilton Head Island areas will finish the process by Labor Day.

Patients will continue to receive the care they depend on from experienced medical clinicians at more than 50 convenient locations statewide. The clinics will maintain walk-in availability and offer online scheduling options, accept most insurance plans and provide comprehensive urgent care services for injuries and illnesses.

The 20 Novant Health Physical Therapy locations, most of which are connected to the urgent care centers, will continue to offer integrated rehabilitation services statewide.

“When you’re ill or injured, it’s important to receive care that is prompt, comprehensive, and integrated with your overall health needs,” said Shelley Janssen, MD, chief medical officer for Novant Health Urgent Care in South Carolina. “Our patients can count on seeing an experienced clinician without delay, and because we’re part of a connected health care network, any necessary follow-up or referrals to specialists happen smoothly and efficiently.”

Building on the decades-long legacy of Doctors Care and Progressive Physical Therapy, Novant Health is reinforcing its commitment to providing innovative, patient-centered care for families and communities across South Carolina.
