Dr. Roxie Wells named chief physician executive officer for patient experience at Novant Health

Influential health care professional brings a deep commitment to advocacy, remarkable patient care

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Dr. Roxie Cannon Wells will join Novant Health’s office of patient experience as the chief physician executive officer. In this role, Wells will help lead the system’s patient experience strategy in support of both employed and independent clinicians. Most recently, Wells served as senior vice president, chief physician executive and strategy officer for Novant Health’s coastal region.

Wells has been shaping health care delivery and policy in North Carolina for more than 25 years. During her career, she has served in a wide variety of settings, from years at the bedside as a practicing family physician to the board rooms of various regional and national organizations to a hospital where she served as president.

“As we navigate the ever-changing health care environment, it is imperative that we remain steadfast in our commitment to delivering a remarkable patient experience,” said Kim Henderson, Novant Health executive vice president. “Roxie brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to our team as well as a deep passion for enhancing patient care and improving health care outcomes.”

Wells has devoted her career to building a strong safety net for the underserved, including improving the quality of health care for those living in rural communities. Her tireless efforts, and her partnerships with organizations that share her passion, have made her a go-to advocate and a trusted voice on behalf of patients from all walks of life.

Wells has served on the board of trustees for the American Hospital Association and as a past chair of the North Carolina Healthcare Association.

Wells, a native of Alabama, is a graduate of Fayetteville State University and East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine.
