Exceptional recognition: Novant Health again earns the most ‘A’ grades in North Carolina for patient safety and quality from The Leapfrog Group

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Novant Health has received the most “A” Hospital Safety Grades in North Carolina for the fourth consecutive grading period, demonstrating the unwavering commitment of more than 41,000 team members to provide safe, high-quality care. The nine recognized Novant Health hospitals outperformed nearly 70% of hospitals nationwide for safety and quality with “A” Hospital Safety Grades.

While these scores reflect a certain timeframe and set of criteria, they allow our teams to continually monitor benchmarks and set even higher goals to ensure we are constantly improving to create a healthier future for every patient and community we serve.”

The Leapfrog Group awarded the following Novant Health hospitals “A” grades for the Spring 2025 scoring period:

  • Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center
  • Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center*
  • Novant Health Huntersville Medical Center*
  • Novant Health Kernersville Medical Center*
  • Novant Health Medical Park Hospital*
  • Novant Health Mint Hill Medical Center*
  • Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center*
  • Novant Health Rowan Medical Center*
  • Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center

Seven facilities (denoted by asterisks) have also been honored with an elite “Straight A” designation for earning an “A” rating in at least five consecutive cycles of the Hospital Safety Grade.

The Novant Health Institute of Safety & Quality is central to the health system’s journey as a high reliability organization (HRO), its holistic approach to quality and its culture of continuous learning and improvement. The institute's many practices maintain and elevate Novant Health’s safety culture, including real-time quality reporting and data analysis, daily safety huddles, patient safety coaches and frequent team member surveys. Novant Health also participates in Vizient's Clinical Data Base, a quality improvement tool, to track outcomes and quality in Novant Health facilities and analyze data from hundreds of hospitals across the country. These initiatives, and others, empower team members to optimize care and continue Novant Health’s long-standing clinical excellence.  

The Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit organization, reviews hospital and patient outcomes across the United States based on more than 30 performance measures focused on safety, quality and patient experience. Each assessment results in a letter grade ranging from A to F. Scores are released twice a year, in the spring and fall.
