WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Dr. Elizabeth McAuley Fish, a breast surgeon with a passion for rural medicine, has joined Novant Health to expand access to specialized breast care in Winston-Salem and Rural Hall, North Carolina.
Fish now cares for patients at Novant Health Breast Surgery - Ardmore and will begin seeing patients in November at a new outreach clinic in Rural Hall, located at 648 Almondridge Drive. The clinics serve patients diagnosed with breast cancer as well as those with noncancerous (benign) breast conditions.
“I was inspired to go into medicine because of my grandfather, who practiced as a general surgeon in Rocky Mount,” said Fish. “Growing up, my family would often need to travel from Rocky Mount to Greenville or Raleigh for our healthcare needs. My goal, especially with this new clinic in Rural Hall, is to meet patients and their families where they live and to provide them with the expert care they deserve.”
Fish earned her medical degree at Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine and completed a breast surgical oncology fellowship at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia. As an osteopathic trained physician, she combines advanced surgical techniques and evidence-based medicine with an emphasis on patient education and whole-person care.
Referral process
Patients with suspicious mammogram findings are typically referred to a breast surgeon for consultation. The surgeon then partners with the patient, their primary care clinician and the Novant Health Cancer Institute to develop a personalized treatment plan, which may include surgery, chemotherapy, immunotherapy or radiation.
Novant Health offers convenient breast surgery clinic locations in Winston-Salem, Kernersville, Rural Hall and Thomasville. To schedule an appointment, call 336-277-6300 or visit NovantHealth.org/Services/Breast-Surgery.
