CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Looking for a way to give back this holiday season? The Novant Health Hemby Holiday Toy Drive is currently collecting toy donations for patients as young as newborns to age 18 at Novant Health Hemby Children’s Hospital. The toy drive is designed to spread holiday cheer to the youngest patients in the community.
“The Novant Health Hemby Holiday Toy Drive is very near to my heart,” said Katie Spizzirri, chief philanthropy officer, Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center Foundation. “As a parent, I can’t imagine the heartache that our Hemby patients and their families might feel this time of year. While it’s not easy to think about, some of our patients are very sick and are unable to jump out of their beds and open presents with their siblings on Christmas morning. For these patients and their families, we have a unique opportunity to spread cheer and more importantly hope, this holiday season.”
What can I give?
Brand-new, nonviolent and non-religious toys, gifts and donations for infants, toddlers, children and teens will be accepted. Those interested in donating can visit the donation wish list for inspiration. Suggested donations for infants and toddlers range from rattles to sound machines and sensory toys while children’s donations include, but are not limited to, Barbie dolls of different ethnicities and small Lego kits. Teen donations include a variety of gift cards, teen coloring books and card games.
Toy donations to Novant Health Hemby Children’s Hospital are used year-round to celebrate all occasions, including holidays, birthdays, “brave” gifts following a medical procedure and much more. Outside of the toy drive, there are multiple ways to give, including the Children’s Hospital Baby Registry through Amazon or financial donations made directly to the Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center Foundation.
Where can I drop my toy off?
The Novant Health Hemby Toy Drive began on Dec. 1 and will run through Dec. 21. Toys can be dropped off at any Novant Health Pediatric Clinic during normal clinic hours or at the Belk House located at 220 Hawthorne Lane, Charlotte, NC 28204 (before parking garage) Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The official donation wish list, registry and link to donate is here.
