Novant Health Huntersville Medical Center broke ground today for its new four-story, 50,000-square-foot hospital wing and 20,000-square-foot renovation project that will include 48 additional patient beds, an operating room, and renovations to several areas. With this $50 million expansion, Huntersville Medical Center will become a 139-bed hospital that is prepared to meet the healthcare needs of one of the fastest-growing communities in the Charlotte area.
“We have seen an increased need for our hospital services over the years due to the tremendous population growth of the Huntersville area and the quality of care the hospital provides to our community,” said Mike Riley, president of Huntersville Medical Center. “The additional patient rooms and other hospital enhancements will ensure we are able to continue to provide remarkable healthcare now and in the future.”
Huntersville Medical Center opened in 2004 as a 50-bed community hospital, serving residents of Mecklenburg, Iredell, Lincoln, Gaston and Cabarrus counties. The hospital has expanded several times over the years including a two-floor vertical expansion in 2012 that added 15 new beds, and the transfer of 16 beds from Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center to Huntersville Medical Center in 2014. Currently, the hospital has 91 beds.
The Huntersville Medical Center expansion and renovation project includes:
- Adding 44 acute medical surgical beds
- Adding two beds in adult intensive care unit beds (ICU) for a total of eight ICU beds
- Adding two beds in neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for a total of four level III NICU beds
- Renovating the well-baby nursery
- Adding two obstetrical triage rooms
- Expanding pharmacy
- Building a new operating room for a total of six operating rooms
The anticipated completion date for the expansion is spring 2019. Vannoy Construction is the general contractor and McCulloch England Associates Architects is the architect.
