WINSTON-SALEM, NC – Novant Health is pleased to announce Sharon Carr Harrington as the new senior director for principal and leadership gifts at Novant Health Foundation. In this role, Harrington will support all Novant Health regional foundations with capital and program-specific fundraising campaigns.
Most recently, Harrington served as the founding executive director of Reading Partners Charlotte, overseeing the organization’s startup and growth throughout the Charlotte region. A certified fundraising executive and attorney with more than 20 years of fundraising and nonprofit experience, Harrington has held previous roles with Davidson College, Foundation For The Carolinas and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Harrington also served as assistant vice president for institutional advancement at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina, and was a member of the department’s senior leadership team. She served as campaign manager of the university’s comprehensive campaign, a $160 million campaign to support its annual fund, capital projects and endowments for scholarships and programs. Before her development career, she worked as an attorney with a national public interest law firm and several government agencies in New Orleans and Charlotte, specializing in environmental regulatory issues, policies and programs. From 1994 to 1999, she served as director of the New Orleans Department of Sanitation and was a member of the mayor’s cabinet.
Committed to philanthropy and community service, Harrington has been involved with a variety of nonprofit organizations. This includes the board of directors of Planned Parenthood Health Systems, the Charlotte Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Lillian’s List of North Carolina, the Women’s Impact Fund, Duke University School of Law Alumni Association, Women Executives and Community Building Initiative. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and psychology at the University of Delaware in Newark, and a juris doctor degree from the Duke University School of Law in Durham, North Carolina. Harrington is married to Robert Harrington and they have one son — Jourdan Harrington.
