WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Novant Health recently welcomed three board-certified pulmonologists, Dr. Dawn-Alita Hernandez, Dr. Nirzari Shah and Dr. Subhas Sitaula, to diagnose and treat patients with lung and respiratory conditions in Greensboro, Kernersville, High Point, Thomasville and Winston-Salem.
The new physicians specialize in caring for patients with shortness of breath, asthma, respiratory failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pulmonary hypertension, pulmonary fibrosis, interstitial lung disease, sleep apnea, pneumonia, emphysema, occupational lung diseases and lung cancer.

Hernandez joins Novant Health as a double board-certified pulmonologist with more than 20 years of experience. She earned her medical degree at Wake Forest University School of Medicine and completed her residency and fellowship training at the University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences in Toledo, Ohio. Hernandez sees patients at Novant Health Pulmonary & Critical Care in Thomasville.
Shah joins Novant Health as a double board-certified pulmonologist with more than 7 years of experience. She completed her medical degree at American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine. She went on to complete her residency training at UPMC Mercy in Pittsburgh and her fellowship at Penn State Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Shah sees patients at Novant Health Pulmonary & Critical Care in Thomasville.
Sitaula joins Novant Health as a triple board-certified interventional pulmonologist with more than 13 years of experience. He completed his medical degree at B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences and completed his residency and fellowship training at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York. Sitaula sees patients at Novant Health Pulmonary & Critical Care in Greensboro and at Novant Health Cancer Institute locations in Kernersville and Winston-Salem.
Novant Health Pulmonary & Critical Care helps patients access and coordinate diagnostic testing, including sleep studies, chest X-rays, pulmonary function tests, CT and PET scans and advanced robotic-assisted bronchoscopy procedures when needed. Following a diagnosis, the care team works with each patient to develop a personalized treatment plan.
