The 20th annual John A. Campbell Memorial Golf Classic has raised $145,000 for the Cancer Care Center at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center.
The event, hosted by the Novant Health Rowan Medical Center Foundation along with presenting sponsors MSS Solutions and Vannoy Construction, was held May 4 at the Country Club of Salisbury. It drew 250 participants, a record for the tournament.
The proceeds from the tournament add directly to the foundation’s efforts to raise $12 million for the Cancer Care Center. The center will offer patient-centered cancer care that’s close to home for residents of Rowan and neighboring counties.
Plans for the new Cancer Care Center include medical and radiation oncology; a comprehensive infusion center; PET imaging; CT imaging and laboratory services; palliative care; integrative medicine; clinical trials; a pharmacy; genetic counseling; cancer care nurse navigators; a Look Good, Feel Good boutique; a wellness garden; and a patient/family education library and classrooms.
With proceeds from the tournament, the foundation also provided seven $1,000 scholarships to area high school seniors who are interested in pursuing healthcare careers.
Since its founding, the golf tournament has raised more than $1.9 million for Rowan Medical Center, said Kristen Trexler, the foundation’s manager of program development. The tournament is named for John A. Campbell, the first executive director of the foundation.
