Join us to celebrate "Undy the Stars"

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Novant Health is hosting "Celebration Undy the Stars" on Sept. 12 at the Tanglewood Amphitheatre located at 4201 Manorhouse Circle in Clemmons from 5 to 8 p.m. The event aims to raise awareness about gastrointestinal cancer and the options available for testing. Bring your lawn chair and picnic blanket and enjoy food trucks, live entertainment from the high-energy party band Bounce, games such as "dunk a physician" dunking booth and a meaningful closing ceremony for those affected by any gastrointestinal malignancies.

Gastrointestinal (GI) cancer includes cancers of the colorectal, anal, gastric, pancreatic, liver, gallbladder and small bowel regions. Organizers hope the event will help expand educate the community about the rising incidence of GI cancers in people ages 20 to 49, as well as inform attendees about genetic testing options and wellness support group available for patients and families of those touched by gastrointestinal cancer. All funds raised at the event will be used in the community to benefit GI cancer care.

"We've made incredible strides in diagnosing and treating gastrointestinal cancer, and, in some cases, incidences of GI cancers are declining," said Gene Paschold, MD, Novant Health oncologist and colon cancer survivor. "However, it's important to recognize the increased incidences of GI cancers among our younger population ages 20 to 49. Nationally, this has been an upward trend for several years. Locally, we have witnessed the impact. We hope this event will help raise awareness among the community."

"Celebrate Undy the Stars" is free for children under age 5; $5 for children 11 and under; and $10 for those 12 and up. For more information, visit celebrateundythestars.com.
