Meeting a growing community’s needs: First Novant Health hospital approved for Union County

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Novant Health received approval from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services for its first comprehensive community hospital in the Wesley Chapel area of Union County. Novant Health Wesley Chapel Medical Center, a 32-bed hospital, will be located at 4719 Weddington Road in Monroe and is expected to be completed in 2030.

“We have served patients in Union County for many years, and Novant Health Wesley Chapel Medical Center allows us to further support our patients with convenient access to our remarkable, patient-centered care closer to home,” said Dr. Sid Fletcher, senior vice president and president of Novant Health Charlotte Region. “The state’s approval of this facility underscores the critical need for acute and outpatient services in this growing area. We look forward to bringing this hospital to life and supporting the community’s long‑term health.”

Union County continues to experience significant growth, especially with people ages 65 and older. Meeting the needs of a rapidly growing community means ensuring there are high-quality medical services that prioritize safety to support residents at every stage of life.

In addition to 32 beds, Novant Health Wesley Chapel Medical Center will feature: an emergency department, procedure rooms, diagnostic imaging, laboratory services, labor and delivery, general medicine and surgical specialty care, with space to expand as future needs evolve.

The hospital will support a continuum of care for patients, joining a well-established group of Novant Health primary and specialty care clinics.
