MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – Novant Health East Cooper Medical Center has been included on Newsweek’s list of America’s Best Physical Rehabilitation Centers 2025, building on numerous recent accolades the Mount Pleasant hospital has received for delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.
“Some of the most meaningful opportunities we have to serve our patients are helping them feel less pain, build strength and regain more independence and confidence through physical rehabilitation,” said Kirsten Royster, Novant Health president of the Charleston area. “Whether our patients need support after cancer, a stroke or an injury, our team of nurses, physical and occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists and others collaborate to provide each patient a remarkable experience, and this recognition affirms their commitment.”
The inpatient rehabilitation center at East Cooper Medical Center opened in 2021 with 10 private patient rooms, a rehabilitation gym, a speech therapy room, recreation space and advanced medical equipment. The center offers comprehensive services for conditions including brain injury, stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease and other progressive or degenerative neurological disorders, as well as myopathy, spinal cord injury, hip fracture, joint replacement, amputation, polyarthritis and more.
East Cooper Medical Center is one of 320 inpatient physical rehabilitation centers across the U.S. recognized by Newsweek and its research partner, Statista Inc. Centers are measured on a number of quality metrics, including assessments of inpatient rehabilitation facilities published by the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, data from independent accreditors, a national survey of physical rehabilitation providers, and patient reviews.
East Cooper Medical Center has earned several notable honors this year. The hospital was included on Newsweek’s 2025 list of America’s Best Maternity Hospitals and honored by the American Heart Association as an exceptional stroke care provider.
East Cooper Medical Center was also recently honored by U.S. News & World Report as a high-performing hospital for orthopedics and was recognized for excellence across four orthopedic conditions and procedures: treating hip fracture, spinal fusion back surgery, and hip and knee replacement.
