Novant Health announces new leadership for Coastal Carolina Medical Center and Hilton Head Medical Center

HARDEEVILLE, S.C. (July 28, 2025) — Novant Health announced two key leadership appointments that will continue to drive the growth and excellence of care in the South Carolina Region.

Matt Conrad has been named president of Novant Health Coastal Carolina Medical Center, effective July 28. A proven healthcare executive, Conrad brings a wealth of hospital leadership experience from respected health systems across Florida, New Mexico, South Carolina and Texas. Most recently, he served as chief executive officer and chief operating officer of Mountain View Regional Medical Center in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Conrad will also lead operational efforts around the construction of the future Novant Health Bluffton Medical Center, recently approved by the state department of public health.

Conrad earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of South Carolina and a master’s degree in health administration from the Medical University of South Carolina. He is excited to return to South Carolina and advance Novant Health’s commitment to providing high-quality, compassionate care close to home.

Conrad is filling the position previously held by Ryan Lee, who has relocated to Greenville, South Carolina, to oversee Novant Health expanding healthcare access in the Upstate.

Joining him in strengthening leadership across the region, Heather King-Semple has been named chief nursing officer and chief operating officer of the Hilton Head market, effective Aug. 18. King-Semple has been part of the Novant Health family since 2003, most recently serving as president of Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center. Her experience leading teams through successful transitions makes her well suited to support clinical excellence, patient experience and team member engagement during this time of growth.

During her tenure at Brunswick Medical Center, King-Semple oversaw significant advancements, including the opening of a new medical plaza, expanded emergency and cardiac services and the addition of new MRI capabilities. Her passion for patient advocacy and team well-being led to increased nurse retention and engagement rates — an approach that will benefit both hospitals and the communities they serve.

“We are thrilled to welcome Matt to the region and congratulate Heather on her expanded role,” said Joel Taylor, president of the Hilton Head area for Novant Health. “Both are passionate, experienced leaders who will help us continue to elevate care and strengthen our connection to the communities we serve. I look forward to working closely with them to ensure we deliver remarkable experiences for our patients and team members every day.”
