THOMASVILLE, N.C. – Novant Health Cancer Institute in Thomasville has completed a major expansion that doubles its exam room space, adds new infusion chairs to its chemotherapy suite and brings more cancer specialists to serve patients in Davidson County and the surrounding communities.
“Patients shouldn’t have to travel far from home to receive expert cancer care,” said Betsy Johnson, senior director of the Novant Health Cancer Institute in the Triad region. “Every detail of this expansion was designed with our patients in mind. We’re committed to improving access to leading-edge treatment and bringing more specialists and treatment options to this community.”
The Davidson County location, which first opened in Lexington in 1986 and relocated to Thomasville in 2017, provides convenient access to a medical oncologist, breast surgeon, gynecologic oncologist and surgical oncologist.
The recent expansion doubled the number of available exam rooms to 12, including one procedure room, and added three infusion chairs, increasing the redesigned chemotherapy suite to 13.
“This project represents a strategic long-term investment in the health of Davidson County,” said Dr. Charles Agbemabiese, medical director of the Novant Health Cancer Institute in Thomasville. “Having cared for patients here for a long time, I’m grateful to see our ability to provide advanced care and specialty services continue to grow.”
The expansion involved Novant Health’s acquisition and remodeling of the former ear, nose and throat clinic located in the adjacent building connected to the cancer institute.
