Michael John Kissenberth, MD will lead Novant Health Orthopedics & Sports Medicine - Congaree and Robert Brown, MD, who is also physician executive for the Greenville area, will lead Novant Health Head & Neck Reconstructive Surgery - Congaree.

Michael Kissenberth, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine, arthroscopy and complex reconstruction of the shoulder, elbow and knee, with additional expertise in shoulder replacement surgery. A nationally recognized expert in the treatment of throwing athletes — with a particular focus on youth — Kissenberth serves as a physician advisor for ongoing research focused on risk factors, treatment strategies and return-to-sport protocols for these athletes. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and is a frequent lecturer at national medical conferences.

Kissenberth serves as a consultant to the Colorado Rockies Baseball Club and holds the position of vice chair of clinical affairs for the GHS Department of Orthopaedics. He received his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina after earning his undergraduate degree from The Citadel, where he served as captain of the football team. Kissenberth completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, followed by his fellowship in sports medicine at renowned clinics in South Carolina and Georgia.

With more than two decades of clinical expertise, Robert Brown, MD, is a nationally recognized facial, head and neck surgeon with an emphasis on cancer and trauma reconstruction and rhinoplasty. He is also dedicated to surgical quality improvement, has held leadership positions with premier health systems and has served nationally with the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Otolaryngology. Brown also serves as a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve.
