WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Women’s Council of Novant Health Foundation Forsyth Medical Center will announce recipients of $50,000 in grants to programs that focus on women’s health during its annual Garden Party on April 15 at 11 a.m. at the Forsyth Country Club. With these new grants, the Women’s Council has provided nearly $475,000 to women’s health programs since 2008.
The Women’s Council is an organization of nearly 125 women who want to improve the health of women in the Winston-Salem community. The council’s mission is to involve women in raising the standard for women’s health care and expanding health care opportunities for all women, regardless of economic circumstances.
“We are so thrilled about this year’s Garden Party,” said Mary Anne Squire, chairwoman of the Women’s Council. “It is such a great way to bring women of the Triad together in celebration of one collaborative mission, and that mission is to simply improve women’s health.”
The organization provides grants to programs that focus on improving the health of women across the region. The council works in partnership with Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center and the Novant Health Maya Angelou Women’s Health & Wellness Center to provide access to women’s care.
Reynolds American is the presenting sponsor, and Kimberly Van Scoy, news anchor from WXII, will be in attendance as the honorary mistress of the ceremony. Members of the Women’s Council will present, including Squire; Lis Marcotullio, Garden Party chairwoman; Sylvia Hall, philanthropy committee chairwoman; and Karen DeSalvo, membership committee chairwoman.
Past council contributions have touched the lives of thousands of local women through the creation of a women’s cancer nurse navigator, mammograms for women who cannot afford one, a women’s cancer survivorship program, and an assistance program for women treated in the emergency room for abuse or sexual assault.
A silent auction will raise funds to support the mission of the Women’s Council. The auction will showcase two Coach purses, a necklace and bracelet from Windsor Jewelers, restaurant gift certificates, and dinner cooked by the mayor of Winston-Salem, Allen Joines.
