WILMINGTON, N.C. – Today Novant Health celebrated a groundbreaking at the site of one of two Michael Jordan Family Medical Clinics in Wilmington.
The groundbreaking marks the start of site work for the clinic at 1410 S. 15th St. on the corner of 15th and Greenfield streets.
“We are so excited to mark this milestone because we know that the work happening here will be transformative for the neighborhoods these clinics serve and the community as a whole,” said Dr. Philip Brown, chief community impact officer for Novant Health. “We are grateful to Michael Jordan for his vision in supporting a different way to provide healthcare to communities that could greatly benefit.”
The Greenfield Street clinic is scheduled to open in 2023 at the site, which was donated by New Hanover County.
Design work is in progress for a second clinic at 3009 Princess Place Drive at the corner of Princess Place Drive and North 30th Street. That clinic is scheduled to open in 2024.
Novant Health and Jordan previously partnered to open two Michael Jordan Family Medical Clinics in Charlotte, bringing comprehensive primary care, including behavioral health and social support services, to the area’s most vulnerable communities.
Jordan’s latest $10 million gift will help Novant Health bring this same integrated care model to his hometown of Wilmington, offering much-needed services to those who are uninsured or underinsured.
