MINT HILL, N.C. (May 2, 2025) – In a medical emergency, every second counts, and access to safe and high-quality healthcare can mean the difference between life and death. To continue meeting the needs of its growing community, Novant Health Mint Hill Medical Center has completed a year-and-a-half long emergency department expansion project, doubling its size by adding 19 rooms and enhancing the patient and family experiences.
In the seven years Novant Health Mint Hill Medical Center has been serving the community, there have been more than 175,000 emergency department visits. With emergency department patient volumes increasing year over year, this expansion improves access for more people to vital emergency services when they need it. This investment will also create a comfortable patient experience, closer to home.

With the completed expansion, the emergency department now spans 44,000 square feet. Thirteen treatment, two trauma and four behavioral health rooms have been added, as well as hybrid procedural space for new radiology and cardiology services. Mobile pad support areas have also been relocated and expanded. The waiting room and public safety area were also renovated as part of the project.
Novant Health Mint Hill Medical Center was named to the 100 Top Hospitals list in the small community hospital category and was one of 17 hospitals in the country to receive the prestigious 2025 Everest Award for achieving the most significant long-term growth over five years. It was also named the top community hospital by Vizient Inc. in the 2024 Bernard A. Birnbaum, MD, Quality Leadership Study.
