Novant Health names Tom Ivester, MD, chief clinical officer for the Triad region

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Tom Ivester, MD, MPH, has been named chief clinical officer for Novant Health’s Triad region. In this role, Ivester will serve as a liaison with medical staff, hospital administration and independent physician partners to ensure seamless, high-quality medical care across the region. His areas of focus include safety, quality and team member engagement. He began on March 1.

Ivester brings more than 10 years of leadership experience in safety and quality strategy, care design and medical staff oversight. His experience includes service line leadership as well as roles as chief medical officer and vice president of medical affairs. Most recently, Ivester served as chief quality officer at University of North Carolina Hospitals.

Since 2003, Ivester has demonstrated his commitment to patients and the next generation of healthcare clinicians by serving as professor of maternal fetal medicine at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. Ivester’s other recent work has included efforts in developing countries to improve the survival of mothers and infants, with projects in Zambia, Malawi and Ghana.

Ivester earned his Bachelor of Science degree from North Carolina State University and a Doctor of Medicine from the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. He completed his residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at Christiana Care Health System and a fellowship in maternal fetal medicine at Columbia Presbyterian and the University of Tennessee - Memphis. He earned a Master of Public Health with leadership concentration at the University of North Carolina School of Public Health.
