CHARLOTTE, N.C., – Today, Novant Health opened a new pediatrics after-hours clinic in Charlotte. Novant Health Pediatrics After Hours Care - Carmel, is designed to provide a more convenient and cost-effective option for families that need care, but don’t require emergency services. The clinic, which is located inside of Novant Health Pediatric Multispecialty Clinic at 6331 Carmel Road Suite 102, in Charlotte, will provide scheduled appointments Monday through Friday from 5 to 9 p.m., and on weekends from noon to 8 p.m.
“As a mom, I know that our kids never seem to get sick at a convenient time,” said Dr. Catherine Ohmstede, Novant Health Children’s Institute physician leader for the greater Charlotte market. “Today, parents are already faced with so many scheduling challenges, and if their child gets sick while they’re at work or over the weekend, it leaves parents often with a tough choice to make between urgent care or the emergency department. Many urgent care locations are also not comfortable with treating young children, which makes access to care even tougher. This clinic is designed to help alleviate that burden for young families, by providing parents and our youngest patients with a more convenient option for after hours and pediatric-specific care.”
The clinic will treat acute illnesses, including colds, sore throats, ear infections, flu and stomach bugs. It will also provide care for minor injuries, such as cuts, sprains and strains, as well as minor procedures that require sutures and stitches. Pediatric patients can also receive assistance with foreign body removal procedures for things like splinters, or objects lodged in the nose or ear. Newborn care is also available.
Novant Health Pediatrics After Hours Care - Carmel is staffed by a team of highly qualified pediatric providers and will treat any patient under 18.

Pediatric specialty care
The Novant Health Pediatric Multispecialty Clinic also includes pediatric clinics for allergy and immunology, cardiology, neurology and sleep, pulmonology and gastroenterology. Expecting parents can also receive after hours and weekend care at Novant Health OB/GYN Urgent Care - Carmel.
Novant Health also offers a pediatric emergency department and comprehensive inpatient care services at Novant Health Hemby Children’s Hospital. Located within Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center, Hemby Children’s Hospital opened in 1995, and offers specialized pediatric care for children from birth to age 17.
Patients in the Huntersville and Lake Norman area may also benefit from Novant Health Huntersville Medical Center’s recently opened pediatric emergency services center. The Martin Truex Jr. Foundation Children’s Emergency Services center offers around-the-clock care for patients in a child-friendly environment.
