WILMINGTON, N.C. – Novant Health has opened Novant Health Preventative Neurology, a new clinic in Wilmington, expanding access to specialized care designed to help patients understand and address risk factors that may affect their long-term brain health.
The clinic provides patients with personalized strategies to support cognitive and neurological health, with a focus on identifying and managing risk factors associated with conditions such as stroke and cognitive decline. Through early evaluation, education and lifestyle interventions, the care team works with patients to take a proactive approach to protecting brain health and reducing certain neurological risks.
"We are in the midst of a transformation in Alzheimer’s care, and neurology is at the forefront of this evolving approach,” said Carolina McCalmon, neurology physician assistant who sees patients at the clinic. “Advances in treatment are creating new opportunities for prevention and early intervention. Today, we have the ability to identify risk factors, support brain health and help patients take proactive steps long before neurological disease affects their quality of life.”
Depending on an individual’s needs and risk factors, a personalized brain health plan may include:

The preventative neurology clinic operates from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. It is currently located at 2221 S. 17th St. in Wilmington. The clinic is slated to relocate to Novant Health Midtown Medical Plaza, 3601 Converse Road in Wilmington, in 2027.
