Novant Health pediatrician to be recognized for leadership and teaching

KERNERSVILLE, N.C. – Dr. Kirk Walker of Novant Health Forsyth Pediatrics in Kernersville will be inducted as an honorary member of Pi Alpha Honor Society on Sunday, March 6, at Elon University for his contributions as an educator of physician assistant (PA) students.

Pi Alpha Society is a national honor society for the physician assistant profession and honors those who exhibit significant academic success as well as service to the profession, leadership and research. To become an honorary member, one must serve the PA profession in the areas of scholarship, leadership or service.

Dr. Walker has been a supporter of our program since its inception,” said Dr. Diane Duffy, director of clinical education at Elon University. “From the very beginning, he signed up to teach students in his busy pediatric practice. Students who have rotated with Dr. Walker have consistently given feedback regarding his excellent teaching and rapport with his patients.”

“I have enjoyed teaching students from various universities around the southeast,” Walker said. “Introducing students to pediatric medicine is very rewarding, and I hope it ultimately opens doors for students entering the medical field.”

Walker also teaches nursing students and other medical learners, allowing students to better understand the roles of other medical providers in the total care of patients.

“He is dedicated to ensuring that the students have a comprehensive experience in pediatric medicine. He has been an advocate for PA education, reaching out to other providers to encourage their participation in learning,” Duffy said.
