BURGAW, N.C., March 14, 2024 – Novant Health Pender Medical Center has increased the range of surgical and procedural care available in Burgaw as part of Novant Health’s efforts to improve access to care for Pender County residents.
“Being a part of Novant Health allows us to bring in physicians based in Wilmington to offer services in Pender County on select days,” said Ruth Glaser, president of Pender Medical Center. “We are grateful to be able to expand the range of specialty services available so more Pender residents can access needed care close to home.”
Surgeons are offering both appointment slots and scheduling procedures at Pender Medical Center to provide patients with convenient care options and reduce travel times. The specialists include:
• Novant Health General Surgery colorectal surgeons Dr. Sarah Fox, Dr. Joseph Payne Jr. and Dr. Whiyie Sang are performing endoscopy procedures and colorectal surgery.
• Dr. Colston Edgerton with Novant Health General Surgery provides pre-surgical endoscopies for patients preparing to undergo bariatric surgery.
• Novant Health Gastroenterology - Wilmington offers a group of gastroenterologists performing endoscopies for both the upper and lower GI tract.
Additionally, community ophthalmologists continue to offer surgical treatments to patients with cataracts and glaucoma.
Pender Medical Center houses two operating rooms and one endoscopy suite.
“We’ve heard fantastic feedback from our surgical patients, who have appreciated our friendly and trusted nurses and surgical team members,” Glaser said.
