DANBURY, N.C. – A new chapter in healthcare begins today for Stokes County as Novant Health officially welcomes Community Hospital of Stokes and its roughly 200 dedicated team members into the Novant Health care network. This milestone represents a significant step in Novant Health’s long-term strategy to create a healthier future for the residents of Stokes County.

“This is a defining moment in our commitment to strengthen and deliver more advanced healthcare services in Stokes County,” said Alisha Hutchens, president of Novant Health’s acute care facilities in the Triad Region, and president of Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center and Novant Health Medical Park Hospital. “As a healthcare system headquartered here in the Triad, Stokes County is home to us. Meeting patients where they live is central to Our Cause to create a healthier future and bring remarkable experiences to life, and this investment reflects our dedication to expanding access to high-quality primary, specialty and hospital-based care in the region.”

The journey to this acquisition began in 2024, when the Stokes County Board of Commissioners initiated a search for a new healthcare partner to purchase or lease and operate the county-owned hospital. After careful consideration, the commissioners unanimously selected Novant Health as their future healthcare provider on March 23, 2026.

“This is a momentous day for patients, hospital team members and everyone who calls Stokes County home,” said Wayne Barneycastle, chairman of the Stokes County Board of Commissioners. “We are thrilled to see how Novant Health, a nationally recognized leader in community-based medicine, will elevate and expand the care available at our local hospital and across the county.”

A legacy of care, a future of possibilities

Community Hospital of Stokes has been a cornerstone of the Stokes County community since its founding in 1954 as Stokes Reynolds Memorial Hospital. Today, the 53-bed critical access hospital provides convenient access to imaging, laboratory, surgical and emergency services. The hospital also includes the Stokes County Nursing Home, a 40-bed skilled nursing unit offering rehabilitative and long-term care services.

In addition to the hospital, several Stokes County care locations have joined Novant Health:

  • Medical Center of King: This outpatient medical facility is located at 402 West King Street in King.
  • Family Medical Center of Danbury: Situated on the hospital campus, this clinic provides primary and sick care services for the community.
  • Pediatric Clinic of Danbury: Also located on the hospital campus, this clinic offers annual physicals, immunizations, primary care and sick visits for patients 18 and under.
  • Family Medical & Urgent Care of Pine Hall: This family medicine clinic in Pine Hall provides primary care, imaging and sick and injury care services.

Novant Health’s presence in Stokes County is already strong, with several primary and specialty care clinics in King. This acquisition ensures even greater access to care, including the recent opening of a Novant Health pediatric cardiology clinic in King and the upcoming launch of an adult heart and vascular clinic in King this fall.
