MINT HILL, N.C. (Oct. 6, 2023) – To improve access to emergency services for the growing population, Novant Health Mint Hill Medical Center held a special groundbreaking ceremony Oct. 6 to expand its current emergency department. The $45 million investment project will double the size of the existing emergency department, adding 19 more rooms.
In a medical emergency, every second counts. Patients and their loved ones have come to rely on the safe and high-quality care provided at Novant Health Mint Hill Medical Center since its doors opened to the community five years ago. It has since provided more than 125,000 emergency department visits. Emergency department patient volumes have increased throughout the years and with limited physical space to flex, this expansion will ensure capacity is not strained and more people can access the emergency and often lifesaving care they need.
“Novant Health Mint Hill Medical Center is committed to growing with the community we serve. It takes a village, and we are thankful for our partnership with local first responders who also prioritize a safe and comfortable experience for every patient,” said Joy Greear, president and chief operating officer of Novant Health Mint Hill Medical Center. “This expansion will enhance that experience and allow our team of highly skilled and specialized clinicians to reach even more people in need of emergency and imaging services.”
The emergency department will expand to 44,000 square feet and will add 13 treatment, two trauma and four behavioral health rooms, as well as hybrid procedural space for new radiology and cardiology services. Mobile pad support areas will also be relocated and expanded. The project includes renovations to the existing waiting rooms, public safety area and lab.
Novant Health Mint Hill Medical Center was ranked second among community hospitals nationwide by Vizient for its consistent delivery of high-quality care. The medical center has also received “A” hospital safety grades by the Leapfrog Group and was recognized as a 2022 Gold Plus rated hospital by the American Heart Association.
The emergency department expansion is expected to be completed in the fall of 2025.
