Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center’s Accountable Care Organization (ACO), Physician Quality Partners, has ranked first in the nation for high quality performance in 2023 by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP). Physician Quality Partners outperformed more than 450 other MSSP ACOs in the country. This achievement builds on Physician Quality Partners’ history of high-quality performance, with the ACO ranking third in the nation last year.
“Our nation-leading results show our efforts to prioritize preventive care and connect patients with their doctors are moving the needle to improve the overall quality of care,” said Dr. Charin Hanlon, chair, Physician Quality Partners ACO. “That means our patients are benefiting from indicated cancer screenings, vaccinations and care coordination.”
Physician Quality Partners achieved an overall quality score of 96.3%, which is based on 2023 data, including measurements such as patient screenings for cancer and chronic disease, prevention strategies and helping patients control conditions such as hypertension. The ranking also considers metrics such as access to timely care, patients’ rating of providers, stewardship of patient resources, patient experience and care coordination.
There are 64 Novant Health clinics included in Physician Quality Partners, and more than 18,000 patients benefit from Novant Health clinics participating in the Physician Quality Partners ACO. ACOs help ensure hospitals, physicians and other health care providers offer coordinated, high-quality care to their patients at the best value.
