LELAND, N.C. – Community leaders joined Novant Health today to celebrate the start of work to construct a new outpatient surgery center to meet growing need for surgical care within Brunswick County and across the region.
The 16,000-square-foot ambulatory surgery center will be built on nearly 4 acres at 9151 Ocean Highway East, which is conveniently located in a commercial area alongside the central highway running through the Leland and Belville communities.
"Once complete, our new center will secure much-needed access for surgeries and procedures that's close to home for Brunswick County residents," said Heather King-Semple, president, Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center. "This vital facility expansion will also support our efforts to continue to recruit surgeons from a variety of specialties to meet the needs of our growing population here in Brunswick County."
The surgery center will have two operating rooms and two procedure rooms. Once it opens, a range of specialists will provide surgical care, including, general surgery, urologic surgery, orthopedic surgery and endoscopy/colonoscopy procedures.
"Outpatient surgery centers offer patients a convenient, community-based option to get quality surgical care from our trusted physicians coupled with the ability to recover at home," said Joshua Tucker, vice president of surgical services and orthopedics for the Novant Health Coastal Region. "This center will join our existing outpatient surgery center in Scotts Hill to further expand this affordable, preferred care option in our region."
Thomas Construction Group is the project's general contractor. Construction will continue this year, and the center is slated to open in 2026.
