GREENSBORO, N.C. – On Sunday, July 27, 2025, leaders from Novant Health and the Mount Zion Development Company joined the congregation at Mount Zion Baptist Church to announce a new partnership focused on expanding access to healthcare for residents in southeast Greensboro.
The Mount Zion Development Company, established by Mount Zion Baptist Church, is leading efforts to bring transformative community resources to the area. Mount Zion has faithfully served the Triad community for 125 years and is now home to more than 5,000 members across its three campuses, including locations in Raleigh-Durham and Charlotte.
This new collaboration includes a multiphase plan to bring a range of primary and specialty care services to the church’s new Zion Hills campus on Alamance Church Road in Greensboro.
“We consider this an answer to prayer,” said Bishop Bryan J. Pierce Sr., senior pastor at Mount Zion Baptist Church. “Our congregation understands the unique healthcare challenges facing our community here in southeast Greensboro, where access to medical services is not as readily available as it is in other parts of the city. We’re delighted to link arms with Novant Health to create a new destination for our members and the larger community to access the care that they need. We’re committed to building stronger communities through better care.”
Dr. Chan Badger, senior vice president and president of Novant Health primary care services, also spoke at Sunday’s service. Badger outlined a multiphase plan that includes:
- A Novant Health mobile care cruiser, which will begin offering routine screenings and primary care services on the church campus later this year.
- The addition of a Novant Health virtual care kiosk to provide convenient telehealth services at the church.
- Construction of a two-story, 40,000 square foot multidisciplinary medical office building located on Alamance Church Road. This facility will offer convenient access to primary care, women’s health services, pediatric medicine, diabetes management, endocrinology services, heart and vascular care, employer solutions, on-site lab, imaging services and access to a community health social worker. While the medical office building is in development, a portion of the church will be temporarily converted into a multispecialty clinic to provide these services so patients can receive them sooner.
The future medical office building is also expected to serve as an economic driver in Guilford County, creating more than 60 full-time jobs in the region.
“Mount Zion Baptist Church operates like a lighthouse in this community,” said Badger. “They have a mission mindset and are focused on improving the physical, emotional and spiritual health of all who enter their doors. Our goal is to simply complement that work by making trusted healthcare services more accessible in this region. Over time, our aim is to build strong relationships with patients in the area and to create new job and partnership opportunities across Guilford County.”
Novant Health, headquartered in the Triad, operates more than 15 outpatient clinics in Greensboro, offering a range of services including primary and urgent care, bariatrics, cancer care, cardiology, endocrinology, neurosciences (brain and spine), orthopedics and more.
