KERNERSVILLE, N.C. – Novant Health Kernersville Medical Center has introduced its first orthopedic robot – the VELYS ™ Robotic-Assisted Solution – giving patients convenient access to the latest innovation in joint replacement surgery.
“Orthopedic surgery is focused on restoring one’s quality of life,” said Dr. Slade Moore, at Novant Health Orthopedics & Sports Medicine in Kernersville. “So many of my patients want to enjoy their next season of life – whether that’s spending time with grandkids, playing pickleball or traveling – but they’re sidelined by pain. This new technology helps us get them back to what they love safely, accurately and at a location that’s close to home.”
The VELYS robot uses advanced imaging technology to create a digital, three-dimensional map of the patient’s unique anatomy. The surgeon then uses the map like a preoperative blueprint to customize every aspect of the surgical plan. During the procedure, the surgeon guides the robot to ensure pinpoint accuracy and optimal placement of the implant.
“The surgeon still performs the procedure,” said Moore. “But the addition of this technology demonstrates our ongoing commitment to provide the latest in advanced surgical options for our patients right here in Kernersville.”
Novant Health’s team of more than 35 orthopedic surgeons and specialty-trained clinicians provide comprehensive care across the Triad – from same-day/walk-in visits for acute injuries to advanced joint replacement surgery.

This new robotic technology is one of several recent investments at Kernersville Medical Center, which also added a fourth floor maternity unit, a heart and vascular lab and more than doubled the size of its intensive care unit.
