U.S. News & World Report ranks Novant Health’s 3 largest hospitals among the top 20 in N.C.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – New annual rankings from U.S. News & World Report affirm Novant Health's long-standing commitment to safe, high-quality care, naming the system’s three largest hospitals among the top 20 medical centers in North Carolina.

The top-ranked hospitals also earned recognition from U.S. News as high-performing in 10 or more specialty procedures and conditions, and serve three regions – the Triad, Charlotte and Coastal North Carolina. They are:

“Patient safety and high-quality care are central to our work to create a healthier future,” said Dr. David Priest, senior vice president, and chief safety and quality officer for Novant Health. “We’re proud of the dedication of our care teams, whose commitment to excellence and continuous improvement have earned top honors for our three largest hospitals and a total of 58 high-performing designations across Novant Health.”

U.S. News & World Report’s 2025-26 Best Hospitals rankings assess thousands of hospitals on the quality and safety of the care patients receive. About 4,400 of those hospitals are evaluated on specialty conditions and procedures, and roughly one-third of them earn high-performing designations in one or more areas.

Overall, 11 Novant Health hospitals were designated high-performing in at least one specialty procedure or condition, while Forsyth Medical Center, New Hanover Regional Medical Center and Presbyterian Medical Center were recognized as high-performing in 10 or more procedures, including cancer care; cardiology and vascular care; neurology and neurosurgery; obstetrics and gynecology; orthopedics; and pulmonology.

“Across these specialties, from cancer and heart and vascular, to orthopedics and maternity, these designations highlight how we’ve invested in building comprehensive programs that provide expert, compassionate care to every patient we serve,” Priest said.

Last year, Forsyth Medical Center, New Hanover Regional Medical Center and Presbyterian Medical Center were also among U.S. News’ 2024 Best Hospitals for Maternity Care. As Novant Health continues to address disparities in maternal and infant health, its efforts also have been recognized by U.S. News for improving outcomes for Black maternity patients. The recognitions are a result, in part, of Novant Health’s investments in research and training in maternity care for Black patients, who nationwide experience disproportionate maternal mortality and other complications compared to white patients, independent of income, age and education.
