U.S. News & World Report rates 7 Novant Health hospitals High Performing for maternity care – the most honors of any N.C. health system

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Novant Health is once again North Carolina’s most-recognized health system for maternity services for the third consecutive year by U.S. News & World Report. The following seven Novant Health facilities were named 2026 High Performing hospitals in the annual U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals for Maternity Care recognition:

  • Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center
  • Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center
  • Novant Health Matthews Medical Center
  • Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center
  • Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center
  • Novant Health Rowan Medical Center
  • Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center

Additionally, U.S. News & World Report recognized Brunswick Medical Center, Rowan Medical Center and Thomasville Medical Center as Maternity Care Access Hospitals – essential hospitals serving communities that wouldn’t otherwise have access to maternity care.

“From prenatal care to delivery, our maternity care teams are deeply invested in creating remarkable outcomes for every pregnancy and every family,” said Dr. Lewis Lipscomb, physician in chief for Novant Health Women’s & Children’s Institute. “Making high-quality care more accessible throughout our communities is an important part of our long-standing commitment to elevating maternal and infant health. We are proud to earn this recognition from U.S. News, and, most importantly, proud to serve each patient who entrusts Novant Health with caring for them and their growing family.”

U.S. News & World Report evaluated 901 hospitals from across the United States in its study, designating just 495 of them as High Performing. The methodology is based on rigorous, objective measures of quality in maternity care, including C-section rates, newborn complication rates, outcomes disparities, implementation of breastfeeding best practices, and more.

“Hospitals designated as a U.S. News Best Hospital for Maternity Care are national leaders. This recognition means they are consistently hitting crucial patient safety benchmarks compared to other hospitals,” said Jennifer Winston, PhD, health data scientist at U.S. News & World Report. “It's a clear signal to expectant parents about where the highest standards of care are being practiced – when parents see this designation, they can be assured they are choosing a hospital dedicated to exceptional, evidence-based maternity care.”

The Novant Health Women’s & Children’s Institute is committed to providing specialized care for women and children at every stage of life, including maternity services.
