WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Three Novant Health hospitals have received national recognition as top performers in delivering high-quality care by Vizient, Inc., which honored them with a 2025 Bernard A. Birnbaum, MD, Quality Leadership Award. Those hospitals are:
- Novant Health Matthews Medical Center, ranked No. 16 out of 243 participating community hospitals
- Novant Health Mint Hill Medical Center, ranked No. 5 out of 206 participating small community hospitals
- Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center, ranked No. 4 out of 98 participating pediatric hospitals

The hospitals were recognized for exceptional performance in the Vizient Quality and Accountability Study based on clinical data from several independent sources, including the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers Systems (HCAHPS) survey and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Healthcare Safety Network. The study measures performance on the quality of patient care in six domains: safety, mortality, effectiveness, efficiency, patient centeredness and variation in care.
This is the fifth consecutive year Vizient has recognized Novant Health Mint Hill Medical Center for care excellence.
The Vizient Quality and Accountability Study helps participating hospitals and health systems understand how they perform compared to peers, and identifies structures and processes associated with high performance in quality and safety across a broad spectrum of services. The recognition period is for clinical data spanning July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2025.
