Sammy Rowland is an engaging 10-year-old who swings a mean bat in Little League.

He started having headaches. They got worse. It was time to the see doctor. His mother called her husband: You need to get over here, they found something.

A brain tumor. And it had to come out. The panicked parents were plunged into a surreal swirl of worries Would he be OK? Could he be disabled for life?

“We’ll take care of this,” explained Novant Health Pediatric Neurosurgeon Dr. Erin Kiehna, of Charlotte.  She removed the tumor with minimally invasive brain surgery that years ago would have been unimaginable.

Sammy is just fine now. And so is his bat.

Novant Health provides expert neurological care for both children and adults.
