Watch the recap from today's announcement at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center.

Charlotte, North Carolina, is now home to one of seven St. Jude affiliates in the country.

Novant Health and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital are joining forces for the St. Jude Affiliate Clinic at Novant Health Hemby Children’s Hospital, a comprehensive treatment center and clinic for children and adolescents suffering from cancer or blood disorders.

“This affiliation will bring the unparalleled research and expertise of St. Jude to Novant Health and provide the highest-quality pediatric cancer care across the Carolinas and beyond,” said Dr. Andy Mueller, president of the Novant Health greater Charlotte market.

Formerly known as Novant Health Blume Pediatric Hematology & Oncology Clinic, the St. Jude Affiliate Clinic at Novant Health Hemby Children’s Hospital opened in 2001 and was originally named in memory of Sherri Blume, who succumbed to a brain tumor in 1967. Its 1,500 patients travel up to two hours to receive coordinated care from a dedicated staff of doctors, nurses, pharmacists, social workers and child life specialists.

With today’s announcement, patients at the St. Jude Affiliate Clinic at Novant Health Hemby Children’s Hospital will benefit from shared best practices with the internationally recognized St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, which is located in Memphis, Tennessee.

“This affiliation between St. Jude in Memphis and Novant Health in Charlotte really provides some of the most advanced and academically exciting opportunities for patient care for kids both with cancer and with non-malignant hematologic diseases,” said Dr. Larry Kun, clinical director and executive vice president at St. Jude.
