These healthier brownies – free of grains and refined sugar – could fool any sweet tooth. They’re soft, chocolatey and fudgy, and they’re made with whole-food ingredients.
Plus, when you combine fats and fiber from the peanut butter and sweet potato, you curb the glucose spike the maple syrup would typically bring. Add in a scoop of chocolate protein powder for an extra nutritional boost.

Recipe: Fudgy sweet potato brownies
Recipe adapted from Paige Lindgren on TikTok, sweet potato brownies
Yields about 10 brownies
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup natural, unsalted peanut butter
- 1/2 cup cooked, mashed sweet potato (about one medium sweet potato)
- 1/3 cup cocoa powder
- 1/3 cup pure maple syrup
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup dark chocolate chips
- Optional: 1 scoop chocolate protein powder
Preparation
Heat oven to 325 degrees.
Peel, cook and mash the sweet potato. See directions below.
Add all remaining ingredients to the bowl and mix until well combined.
Add brownie batter to a small, greased baking dish. Anything from a loaf pan to 8x8 dish will do, but these will not rise, and smaller pans result in fudgier brownies.
Bake for 25 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool, then cut and serve.
Yields: About 10 servings. Per serving (without protein powder): 156 calories; 9.2 g fat; 16.5 g cholesterol; 197.3 mg sodium; 16.3 g carbohydrate (9.6 g sugar); 4.9 g protein.
Note: You can prepare the sweet potato in one of two ways. For best results, peel the skin off the potato, tightly wrap it in aluminum foil and bake at 425° for one hour. For quicker prep, peel the potato, wrap it in a damp paper towel and microwave for six to seven minutes, until soft enough to mash.
