National Nurses Week is a celebration and recognition of the invaluable contributions nurses make to patient care. This is the fourth in a series of stories highlighting a few of the many exceptional nurses at Novant Health, as chosen by their peers for going above and beyond in caring for patients.

Jennifer Hall has an undeniable love for nursing and a passion for serving others, according to her managers. A member of the intermediate nursing unit at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center, she was recognized for her remarkable patient care with a DAISY Award, a nationwide program that honors extraordinary nurses for the incredible work they do every day.

Recently, Hall touched the life of one patient in a memorable way. The young paraplegic man with many complex medical issues had been under her care for several weeks. When he improved, the patient was transferred to another unit.

Hall made it a special point to visit him to see how he was doing. He had good and bad days, and Hall wanted him to know that she was still there for him. She even took the time decorate his room to make it feel a bit more like home.

One thing that seemed to make the patient happy was sitting in a chair – anything to get him out of bed. Having spent a lot of time with the young man, she had perfected the proper technique to get him up and going, and she showed his care team how to move him safely so he could spend more time out of bed.

With the help of other nurses, Hall worked to ensure the young man felt safe, secure and cared for. For the compassionate care shown to this patient, Hall received the Nursing Professional Practice Model Award.
