Novant Health expands neurosciences service line

Winston-Salem, N.C., Sept. 19, 2016 – Novant Health is expanding its neurosciences capabilities across the communities it serves, particularly in Charlotte and Winston-Salem, to better meet the needs of patients.

In 2015, Dr. Eric Eskioglu, a vascular neurosurgeon joined Novant Health as senior vice president to lead Novant Health’s neurosciences service line across the 14-hospital system by building a comprehensive inpatient and outpatient neurosciences program and  implementing best practices and unifying processes and protocols across the system.

“At Novant Health, our goal is to create a world-class experience for patients regardless of their entry point within our health system and affiliated hospitals” said Eskioglu. “We already have outstanding community-based neurosciences providers. The further addition of highly talented specialists such as cerebrovascular neurosurgeons, orthopedic and neurosurgery spine surgeons, brain tumor neurosurgeons, multiple sclerosis neurologists, Parkinson’s movement disorder neurologists and vascular neurologists will help propel us to the next level. We are truly structured to provide the most comprehensive remarkable neurologic patient care possible, and through our neurosciences telemedicine network, physicians can access the expertise of our subspecialists throughout the Carolinas and Virginia, greatly improving our patient care.”

Joining the already existing neurosciences experts and providers at Novant Health are:

Greater Winston-Salem

Greater Charlotte

“From neurosurgeons who perform general neurosurgery to neuro-hospitalists who manage acute neurologic illnesses to neuro-intensivists who care for patients in the intensive care unit, we’re able to offer patients advanced neurological care,” said Eskioglu. “We also have orthopedic spine surgeons that perform spine surgery and neuro-oncologists who are using some of the most advanced care protocols to treat brain tumors. We’re well on our way to becoming a center of excellence within the field of neurosciences.”

The Joint Commission, American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association have recognized Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center as an Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center since 2013. Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center is currently designated as a Primary Stroke Center and is making strides toward an Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center designation. Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center is the highest level that can be achieved by a stroke-care program. These programs help establish standards of excellence and best practices that directly impact patients’ lives.
