WILMINGTON, N.C. – Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center has been named as one of the Best Hospitals for Pediatrics by Money, formerly known as Money Magazine. Money partnered with The Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit organization that works to help consumers make informed decisions about their health and ability to access safe, high-value care.
Novant Health Betty H. Cameron Women's & Children's Hospital offers 17 pediatric beds, a 45-bed, all-private-room neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) that cares for babies born prematurely or critically ill, and six beds in the only pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) and pediatric surgery program in the region. The hospital has three PICU intensivists on staff, as well as nine pediatric hospitalist providers.
“We are extremely proud of our talented physicians and care teams, who put us in the position to be considered one of the best in the country,” said Shelbourn Stevens, president of Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center and Novant Health’s Coastal Region. “We’re thankful for this recognition and our hardworking team members who are dedicated to serving southeastern North Carolina families.”
Over 2,000 hospitals completed the Leapfrog Hospital Survey, allowing them to qualify for this list. Each hospital had to carry an A or B letter grade on the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade assessment for the fall of 2022. Hospitals were also assessed on ICU physician staffing, safe medication administration, patient experience and never events.
"Our amazing people that work at the children’s hospital strive to take care of every child like our own," said Dr. Michael Stoiko, pediatric intensivist at Betty H. Cameron Women's & Children's Hospital. "We strive to provide the best possible care not just for our region but for our state."
