Novant Health opens first pediatric sports medicine clinic, welcoming Drs. Jennifer Gaitley and Christian Turner

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Novant Health is pleased to announce the opening of Novant Health Pediatric Sports Medicine in Charlotte. The clinic, staffed by Drs. Jennifer Gaitley and Christian Turner, is the first in the Charlotte area exclusively dedicated to pediatric sports medicine.

Gaitley earned her medical degree from Wayne State University in Detroit. She completed a pediatric residency followed by a primary care sports medicine fellowship at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital in Cleveland. Board-certified in pediatrics and sports medicine, Gaitley has served as a team physician at both the high school and collegiate level and has also provided physician coverage at the Cleveland marathon, the Cleveland triathlon and statewide youth soccer tournaments. Her primary areas of interest include care of the female athlete, overuse injuries and fracture management. Outside of work, Gaitley enjoys hiking, yoga and spending time with her husband exploring their new home state.

Turner attended SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York, followed by a residency in pediatrics at the University of Connecticut. He went on to complete a fellowship in primary care sports medicine at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). Turner completed an additional six months of training in the care of general nonoperative orthopedic conditions prior to starting in practice. He spent four years as an attending physician within CHOP orthopedics treating children and adolescents from infancy through college for sports and musculoskeletal concerns, including acute and overuse injuries, simple fractures, joint pains and concussions.

Turner’s training allows him the unique practice model of managing both sports concerns and general musculoskeletal orthopedic issues such as in-toeing, scoliosis and flat feet. He and his wife, a former collegiate soccer player and behavioral health counselor, have two children. They are excited to be in Charlotte, where her family has lived for 10 years.

Pediatric Sports Medicine offers a wide range of services, including care for sport-related concussions, musculoskeletal injuries, overuse injuries, nutrition issues and nonsurgical fracture management. The clinic is located inside the Pediatric Multi-Specialty Center at 201 Queens Road in Charlotte, and is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The clinic provides complimentary “meet the doctor” visits to new patients.
