Novant Health partners with Kernersville Parks and Recreation to open a new outdoor fitness court

KERNERSVILLE, N.C. – Novant Health Kernersville Medical Center recently partnered with Kernersville Parks and Recreation to install a new community health and wellness fitness court by the water tower at Civitan Park, 309 Nelson Street in Kernersville. The new outdoor exercise space is designed to help improve access to free health and fitness equipment within the community.

Novant Health Kernersville Medical Center served as the sponsor for the new fitness court in honor of its 10-year anniversary in serving the people in and around Kernersville. Kernersville Parks and Recreation also received grant funding from the fitness court developer, the National Fitness Campaign (NFC). The NFC fitness court, a proprietary product, features stations for exercises ranging from lunges to squats to agility training. The organization says with the court’s equipment, users can get a full workout in seven minutes. The new fitness court will offer community members of all athletic levels a unique and safe place to exercise in an outdoor and open-air wellness center environment. The fitness court also offers a downloadable app, which provides helpful workout and coaching instruction.

“We’re very excited to continue to build upon our strong community partnership with the town of Kernersville,” said Kirsten Royster, president and chief operating officer of Novant Health Kernersville Medical Center. “By improving access to fitness opportunities within our community, we’re not only helping to revitalize a park, but we’re also making an investment in the overall health of the next generation.”

“We appreciate Novant Health’s longstanding commitment to improving health and wellness in our community, and are excited about their support of the new fitness court at Civitan Park,” said Dawn Morgan, mayor of Kernersville. “The fitness court will provide a fantastic opportunity for members of our community to access free outdoor exercise facilities, for fitness and well-being. Civitan Park has always been a well-loved park in our community, and the fitness court is a great addition to the park. On behalf of the town of Kernersville, I would like to thank Novant Health for helping make the installation of the fitness court possible, and for their continued support of health and wellness in our community.”

“This is a fantastic partnership,” said Ernie Pages, director of the Kernersville Parks and Recreation Department. “By working together we are able to address an identified community need from a parks and health perspective. My hope is that the fitness court will provide everyone a fun way to get fit and stay healthy, while improving the overall health of our community.”

In light of rising COVID-19 cases within our community, there will not be a kickoff community event. However, the new fitness court is now open for public use.
