Three heart and vascular doctors join Novant Health clinics in the Triad

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Novant Health is growing to meet the healthcare needs of cardiovascular patients in the Triad region and is pleased to welcome three new heart and vascular physicians to its teams this week, including Dr. Ashley Rickey, Dr. Olivia Gilbert and Dr. Douglas Friedman.

Ashley Rickey, MD

Dr. Ashley Rickey recently completed a vascular surgery fellowship at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Before that, she was a general surgery resident at the Medical University of South Carolina. She completed a bachelor’s degree at Clemson University in Clemson, South Carolina, before going on to complete medical school at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. Rickey will be joining Novant Health Vascular Specialists and Novant Health Vein Specialists, which has locations in Winston-Salem and Kernersville.

Olivia Gilbert, MD

Dr. Olivia Gilbert specializes in heart failure and most recently completed an advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology fellowship at University of North Carolina Medical Center. Before that, she completed a general cardiology fellowship at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and an internal medicine residency at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C. She completed a bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville before completing her medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk. Dr. Gilbert will be joining Novant Health Forsyth Heart and Wellness in Winston-Salem.

Douglas Friedman, MD

Dr. Douglas Friedman specializes in noninvasive cardiology and most recently completed a cardiovascular disease fellowship at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City after completing an internal medicine residency with UNC Hospitals in North Carolina. He completed a bachelor’s degree from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, before going on to medical school at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. Dr. Friedman will be joining Novant Health Cardiology, which has nine locations around the Triad and southern Virginia.
