Carolina Family Practice & Sports Medicine joins Novant Health, builds on system’s existing services in the Triangle

Three respected clinics serve the needs of families and athletes across the Triangle

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – As Novant Health continues its work to create a healthier future for the Carolinas, the health system welcomes a highly respected, Triangle-based clinic, Carolina Family Practice & Sports Medicine (CFPSM), effective Jan. 1. The 15-clinician medical practice serves the Triangle region of North Carolina from three clinic locations – in Raleigh, Cary and Holly Springs.

“Novant Health and Carolina Family Practice & Sports Medicine share a commitment to design care around patient needs and establish partnerships to improve the health of communities,” said Bryan Edwards, MD, SVP, chief clinical strategy officer and system physician executive, Novant Health Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Institute. “From caring for professional athletes and weekend warriors to meeting the lifelong healthcare needs of entire families, CFPSM has earned a reputation for being a valued neighbor and providing excellent care both inside and outside the clinic walls.”

CFPSM provides comprehensive care for acute and chronic conditions as well as preventive care for patients of all ages. The clinic helps patients of all ages prevent and manage conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, heart disease, thyroid disease, depression, anxiety and others.

In addition to traditional, clinic-based care, CFPSM has made itself an integral part of the community by partnering with many local high schools to provide athletes with the highest level of medical care. Its sports medicine program includes a broad range of services, such as pre-participation screenings and physical exams, the treatment of musculoskeletal injuries and the management of other medical conditions, such as asthma and diabetes, that athletes face. CFPSM also offers education about injury prevention and performance enhancement.

Because of its expertise in concussion management, CFPSM also houses the Carolina Sports Concussion Clinic, one of the busiest clinics of its kind in the country. Additionally, CFPSM team members serve as the clinicians for a variety of amateur and professional sports organizations in the Triangle, as well as volunteering with area medical ministries serving the uninsured and under-insured.

Novant Health’s network includes two other primary care clinics in Wake CountyPrimary Care Partners Ligon Mill and Village Family Care, both in Wake Forest.
