Franklin Medical Center joins select hospitals across the country as a quality respiratory care facility.
Louisburg, NC, Apr. 29, 2014 – Novant Health Franklin Medical Center was awarded Quality Respiratory Care Recognition (QRCR) by the American Association for Respiratory Care as part of a national program aimed at helping patients and families make informed decisions about the quality of respiratory care services available in hospitals.
“Our cardiopulmonary department works hard to provide excellent care to patients with respiratory issues,” said Jody Morris, president of Novant Health Franklin Medical Center. “It is great to see them recognized for their efforts.”
About 700 hospitals out of the 5,000 hospitals in the United States received this award.
“We are so proud to be part of the 15 percent of hospitals designated as a quality respiratory care facility,” said Selena Mooring, cardiopulmonary department manager.
The QRCR program was started by the American Association for Respiratory Care in 2003 to help consumers identify those facilities using qualified respiratory therapists to provide care. To qualify for recognition, facilities must adhere to a strict set of criteria designed to ensure patient safety.
“A lot of patients that come through our hospital require respiratory therapy,” added Mooring. “Our team is dedicated to providing the high-quality respiratory care that this community needs.”
Respiratory therapists are specially trained health care professionals who work under a physician’s orders to provide a wide range of breathing treatments and other services to people with asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, cystic fibrosis, lung cancer, AIDS and other lung-related conditions.
A list of QRCR hospitals is maintained at the association’s website for consumers at www.YourLungHealth.org.
