Novant Health gives patients a new way to access health information in the hospital

CHARLOTTE, N.C.    Novant Health is piloting a new, online feature that allows patients to access their health information on a tablet while in the hospital. MyChart Bedside is an app that allows patients and their families to interact with their medical record and care plan during a hospital stay. The pilot is being used at three medical centers: Novant Health Huntersville Medical Center, Novant Health Mint Hill Medical Center and Novant Health Charlotte Orthopedic Hospital.

Patients in the hospital can access their account from a hospital tablet on the nursing unit. New features allow patients to:

  • View vitals, labs and medications.
  • Access patient education materials.
  • View and chat with the care team.
  • View scheduled events, such as an upcoming surgery.

The app also allows the patient to make nonurgent requests for items such as blankets and ice. Patients will even have access to games and entertainment on the app. If patients already have a MyChart account through Novant Health, data from MyChart Bedside will be synced with their existing account after they leave the hospital.

“We are excited to provide patients a new way to access their health information while in the hospital,” said Dr. A.J Patefield, senior vice president and chief medical information officer at Novant Health. “We have seen the success of giving patients online access to their medical record in our medical group clinics, and MyChart Bedside will give patients another way to access their health information as it relates to their hospital stay. This is one more way we’re making healthcare more accessible and convenient for our patients.”
