When Novant Health explored the idea of a virtual menopause clinic, leaders wanted to know whether women would actually use it.
The answer — a resounding “yes” — came from Community Voice, a panel of community members who share feedback through short surveys and other research activities. Their feedback helped shape the clinic’s services and confirmed that it was filling a real need.
The result was a new service that connects women with specialized menopause care in a virtual setting — and one that quickly drew huge interest from patients.
Community Voice currently includes thousands of participants across the regions Novant Health serves, helping researchers better understand what patients and community members want, need and expect from their healthcare experience.
“The goal is to get feedback before decisions are finalized, so we can better understand what people need and what matters most to them,” said Brie Craig, manager of consumer research & insights for Novant Health. "The feedback people share may seem small, but it influences many of the ways they interact with Novant Health."

What’s the impact of Community Voice?
Community Voice feedback has helped inform decisions both large and small across Novant Health. Recent examples include:
- Helping shape a virtual menopause clinic
- Informing the rebrand of Novant Health Hemby Children’s Hospital
- Identifying ways to make the Novant Health website easier to navigate
- Guiding naming decisions for newly acquired clinics
- Making healthcare language clearer and more patient-friendly
Community Voice respondents told us they prefer terms such as “heart care” and “cancer care” over more clinical terminology. They also preferred more straightforward language like “annual checkup” instead of “well visit.”
“That feedback helps us communicate in ways that are clearer and easier for patients to understand,” Craig said.
