CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Kim Henderson has been named as an Executive in Residence for Queens University McColl School of Business. Henderson currently serves as system chief of staff to the CEO and senior vice president of executive leadership development at Novant Health. She graduated with her MBA from the McColl School of Business in 2012.
Executives in Residence for the McColl School of Business challenge and support students to develop their full leadership capacity. Henderson will mentor students by leveraging her experience in philanthropy, board governance, community relations, corporate social responsibility and health care.
In her role as chief of staff, Henderson leads CEO projects and assists the president and CEO with strategy discussions with internal and external stakeholders, influencing business execution. In addition, she has oversight for board governance and executive team initiatives. Prior to her role as chief of staff, Henderson served as the senior vice president for the Novant Health Foundation and community relations, overseeing six Novant Health foundations across North Carolina and Virginia, as well as leading the organizations’ community relations efforts. Henderson previously served as vice president of corporate social responsibility and executive director of the Charlotte Hornets Foundation, where she oversaw the social responsibility, community partnerships and philanthropic efforts for Hornets Sports & Entertainment. She has also held the position of senior director of corporate relations and sponsorships at Novant Health, where she built and managed Novant Health's partnership with the Bobcats/Hornets since the team's inaugural season in 2004.
In addition to her role at Novant Health, Henderson is currently serving her second term as the membership chair for Women Executives. She serves on the Fletcher School board of trustees and is the leadership development chair for the American Heart Association for 2020, where she also serves on the Charlotte board. In 2017 and 2018, she was the Go Red campaign chair of the American Heart Association and has been a member of the American Heart Association executive leadership committee for 10 years. Henderson has also served on the board of directors for the Arts and Science Council, The Mint Museum, Discovery Place, United Way of the Central Carolinas, Autism Speaks, and has served on the board of visitors for Johnson C. Smith University.
Henderson is a graduate of Western Michigan University. In addition to receiving her MBA from McColl School of Business at Queens University of Charlotte, she has completed the Harvard Business School program for management development, acquired her project management certificate from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and completed the Duke University nonprofit management program. She also recently received her certificates of completion from both Cornell University and the University of Illinois for coursework in diversity and inclusion and race and cultural diversity in American life and history, respectively. In addition to her educational experience, Kim has received multiple honors, including the Queens University Entrepreneurship Award in 2012, the Charlotte Business Journal Women of the Year Award in 2019, and the Mecklenburg Times 50 Most Influential Women Award in 2019.
