The new Women’s Center will add 10 new labor-delivery/recovery-postpartum (LDRP) rooms to the hospital, bringing Matthews Medical Center to a total of 30. Rooms are spacious enough for moms and babies to room together throughout the birthing experience and into the postpartum period. The delivery suites will each have a private balcony, a guest bed, and full bathrooms with a Jacuzzi, shower, hair dryer and more.
“Novant Health Matthews Medical Center has provided exceptional women’s services for more than 21 years,” said Roland Bibeau, president and chief operating officer of Matthews Medical Center. “Our new Women’s Center will allow us to better serve the growing needs of our community and your family.”
The center will feature three triage rooms where pregnant women will be evaluated to determine if they require admission to the Women’s Center. There will also be two antepartum (pre-delivery) rooms dedicated to women at more than 20 weeks’ gestation who are not yet ready to deliver but who need inpatient care for medical conditions. Every exam and delivery room will provide mom with a comfortable, designated space to receive remarkable care at any stage of her pregnancy.
Mothers and families of premature babies or babies born with health concerns will receive care in the facility’s new, expanded level II neonatal intensive care unit. The entire facility is protected with a state-of-the-art infant security system. Mothers and babies in both high-risk and routine pregnancies at the Women’s Center will also have access to board-certified maternal-fetal medicine specialists and neonatologists. Our experienced providers will manage the health concerns of both mom and her baby before, during and after pregnancy.
“We recognize the need for comprehensive, personalized services when it comes to women’s health,” said Pat Campbell, vice president of women’s services for Novant Health. “That’s why our outstanding providers are dedicated to serving the women of Union and Mecklenburg counties so that they, and their families, will have the best experience possible at our facility.”
Additional features at the Women’s Center will include a separate entrance and parking area for patients, a retail boutique, a coffee kiosk, a conference center to host women’s health-related seminars and classes, and an outpatient lactation center that will provide breast-feeding equipment, supplies and support seven days a week. Patients at the Women’s Center will have access to all of the comprehensive women’s health services Matthews Medical Center has to offer, including 3-D mammography and urogynecology services.
The Women’s Center will open in early August. Patients at Novant Health Carmel OB/GYN, Novant Health Southeast OB/GYN, Novant Health Bradford Obstetrics & Gynecology and Arboretum Obstetrics & Gynecology will have the option to deliver at Matthews Medical Center Women’s Center. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant and are interested in delivering at the Women’s Center may call one those clinics to schedule an appointment.
